COST & INSURANCE

Understanding the Cost

Cost shouldn't be the reason you don't get relief. We work with most patients to get the majority of their procedure covered.

What to expect

What insurance typically covers — and what it doesn't yet

Typically covered: the diagnostic workup
The initial evaluation — including the diagnostic angiogram and the lidocaine test — is generally covered by most major insurance plans, because it is a standard diagnostic angiogram with an intra-arterial anesthetic test. Your consultation is usually covered as a specialist visit as well.
Not yet universally covered: the embolization procedure
The embolization procedure for migraine is still considered investigational by most insurers, so it is not yet universally covered. That doesn't mean it's not covered — it means we have to advocate for you. We work with most patients to get the majority of their procedure covered through insurance or other arrangements, and coverage is expanding as evidence grows.
What's included

Three parts to TEMMA®-related care

TEMMA®-related care typically includes three main components. Each part is billed separately, and we tell you what to expect before anything is scheduled.

1
Initial Consultation
  • Review of your migraine history
  • Examination of prior imaging
  • Evaluation for TEMMA® candidacy
  • Overview of expected results, risks, and benefits
Usually covered as a specialist visit.
2
The Lidocaine Test Procedure
  • A brief cerebral angiogram
  • The intra-arterial lidocaine test — we check your migraine pain over the next 90 minutes
  • Same-day discharge
Most insurance plans cover this as a standard diagnostic angiogram.
3
The TEMMA® Embolization Procedure
  • Procedural suite and imaging time
  • Microcatheter navigation into the MMA
  • The platinum coil
  • Light sedation and monitoring
  • Same-day discharge
Many insurance plans cover; others partially reimburse depending on diagnosis and medical necessity — we submit all documentation and work with your insurer on authorizations.
How we help

We go to bat for you

Benefits verification
We’ll review your benefits, confirm what is included under your plan, and provide a clear estimate before any appointment or procedure.
Prior authorization
We handle prior authorizations, appeals, and direct communication with your insurer — and submit all documentation on your behalf.
Clinical documentation
We provide the documented medical necessity your insurer needs, including submission of clinical notes and imaging.
EMBRACE-OBS study
We sponsor the EMBRACE-OBS observational study (NCT07652034) — a research registry tracking patient-reported outcomes after MMA embolization for migraine. Patients can contribute to building the evidence base for this procedure.
You will never receive unexpected billing from us without prior explanation.

Payment options

For any remaining out-of-pocket amount, cost should not be the barrier to relief. Depending on your situation:

If you'd like, we can create a personalized cost breakdown after your consultation.
